Braised Coca-Cola chicken wings

Braised Coca-Cola Chicken wings is considered as one of the most popular dishes in China. It mixes the Chinese style of braising and Coca-Cola to make juicy and delicious BBQ style wings.

This Chicken wings recipe uses the basic Chinese braising process, which involves the stir frying of the meat over high heat and adding spices and sauce, then simmering until the meat becomes tender and adjusting the flavor and thickening the sauce at the end.

There are plenty ways to make braised Coca-Cola chicken wings. The easiest way is to put chicken wings, soy sauce and Coca-Cola into a skillet, then boil it all the way through. But, if you want the chicken wings to be juicy, a charred surface (instead of sloppy skin), and a savory flavor that isn’t just sweet, you’ll need to spend a bit more effort

1 scallion
3 slices of ginger
1 tbs light soy sauce
1 tsb dark soy sauce (optional)
Cooking Oil
12 oz Coca-Cola/Pepsi
1 can of beer to marinade than 1/2 cup to cook with

Braised Coca-Cola Chicken wings Prep:

Wash wings in cold water and pat thoroughly dry with paper towels.
Poke some small holes on the back & front of the chicken wings so it marinate deeper into the meat.
Soak the chicken wings in a bowl using a can of beer for 1 hour to tenderized the meat.
Chop up scallion into small pieces.
Cut 3 slices of ginger.


Heat up wok/pan until it is hot. Add some cooking oil, and add the white parts of the scallion first & 3 piece of ginger.

Stir fry for 30 seconds then add the chicken wings into the wok/pan. Spread out the wing pieces in a single layer, and lightly brown them for a few minutes on each side. The wok should be over high heat.

Add about half a cup of beer that was used for marinate into the wok/pan, cook until the liquid is reduced by half. Then, Add 1 tablespoon of light soy sauce.

Add 1 teaspoon of dark soy sauce. (For a darker caramel color)

Now add the Coca-Cola to chicken wings

Bring it to a boil, cover the lid, and turn down the heat to medium.

Let it simmer for 12-15 minutes–until the sauce is almost dry (though there should still be a small pool of thick sauce at the bottom of the wok). Stir the wings.

Now turn up the heat, and quickly stir the wings until the sauce coats each piece. Ready to plate & serve! 

Note: Diet Coke/Pepsi will not work!
