Also named as sweetened condensed milk, it is a combination of cow’s milk and sugar. Some of the water content of the milk is removed by evaporation. Along with sugar, this evaporation step thickens the milk. Homemade Condenced Milk.

condensed milk has a slight caramel flavor, a smooth, creamy texture, and thick like honey in consistency. Because we are not actually caramelizing the sugar during the process, the addition of vanilla extract (you can replace with other extracts for a different flavor) brings in the warmth associated with traditional store-bought condensed milk. Otherwise, you simply need boiling water, sugar, butter, milk powder, and the vanilla extract.


Sweetened condensed milk is a condiment used in making many sweets, truffles, candies, cakes, cookies, desserts, Indian mithai, laddoos, milkshakes, ice cream, pudding, and the list goes on. Any recipe that calls for milk and sugar. Condensed milk can be added to it for a rich decadent taste.

Milk- I use whole milk. I haven’t tried but I heard almond milk and coconut milk also work.

Sugar- I use granulated sugar. Sugar plays an important role as a thickener besides the sweetness.


  • 3 eggs
  • Condensed Milk 300g ( 1 cup)
  • Salted butter 50g ( 1/4 cup)
  • All purpose flour 125g ( sifted ) ( 1 cup)
  • cornstarch 25g ( optional ) ( 3 table spoons )
  • Baking Powder 10g (2 teaspoons)

Homemade Condensed Milk Directions:

Separate the eggs white and yolk. Beat the eggs yolk (whisk enough) & add 300g of condensed milk When it becomes smooth paste add salted butter 50g

After adding butter its difficult to mix with hand mixture, hence i used the beater and beated them around 10 minutes ( you can do the same with your whisk but im little lazy )

Now add 125g of all purpose flour ( sifted) cornstarch 25g & baking powder 10g in to the batter and mix all together.

Now the main batter is ready. now beat the eggs whites ( i beated around 10 minutes in high speed & I didnt clean the beater and used the same. Hence eggs whites not become fluffy )

Mix the both together with using a spoon and transfer it in to your baking tray.
( when you are using baking trays pls try to use tray like i used because sometimes springform pans are not working well for steam)

Cover the pan with aluminum foil. I fully covered it.

Steam for 1 hour in low heat. open the lid and let it to cool. Now remove the aluminum foil and its ready to serve.

How To Store Your Homemade Condensed Milk ?

Store homemade sweetened condensed milk in an airtight glass jar in the fridge and it should stay good for 7-10 days. If you don’t want to use it immediately, you can freeze it for 3 months. Reheat it if the sugar crystallizes.
