These chocolate buns are absolutely perfect. They’re ultra fluffy, soft and light even on the 3rd day and make the whole house smell heavenly.

I’ve recently made them and gave some to our neighbors and they were a huge hit. I even had to make more the next day.

Made with ingredients you probably have on hand: flour (all purpose flour), an egg, milk, butter, sugar and chocolate sticks. The Chocolate bread rolls are perfect for breakfast, brunch, afternoon tea/ coffee or as a snack.

Ingredients: For 12 rolls

To Make these Chocolate bread rolls, you will need :

  • 3 cups flour type 45
  • 3/4 cups milk at room temperature
  • 200 g soft butter
  • 90 g sugar
  • 8 g salt
  • 25 g fresh baker’s yeast or 10 g dehydrated
  • 1 egg for the gilding
  • Chocolate sticks

Chocolate bread rolls Method :

In a bowl or in the bowl of a food processor, pour the flour, sugar, soft butter and salt and mix.

Add the baker’s yeast that you have previously diluted with a little warm milk and continue mixing.

Pour in the remaining warm milk little by little and knead until you obtain a smooth and homogeneous dough that comes off the sides of the bowl (count 10 minutes of kneading).

Cover the dough with cling film or a clean tea towel and leave it to double in size in a warm place away from draughts.

Then, degas the dough and roll out a rectangle and cut into 12 equal strips.

Place a bar of chocolate on the edge of the rectangle and roll twice without pressing too hard, place another bar and finish rolling.

Place the Chocolate bread rolls on an ovenproof dish covered with baking paper and let rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.

Preheat oven to 180° for 10 minutes.
Brush the rolls with the egg diluted with a little milk, and bake for 15 minutes while watching the rolls color.

Once the Chocolate bread rolls are cooked, remove them to a rack and let them cool.
